Facing hearing loss can be challenging and sometimes scary. Having support from a team of hearing professionals can help.
The Beginning of Hearing Loss
Hearing loss can start at any age and for various reasons, however the most common type of hearing loss is age-related and begins to happen subtly between the ages of 40-60 for most adults. The first signs that you may be developing hearing loss may not be that obvious. Constantly turning the TV or radio volume up, asking people to repeat themselves, or difficulty hearing conversation in a noisy environment may all be signals that your hearing is impaired.
By age 70, about half of all adults have some significant hearing loss. On the other hand, some people may struggle with hearing loss earlier in life. Factors that can negatively impact hearing earlier in life may include: family history of hearing loss, exposure to gunfire through military service or firearm use, or working in a noisy environment. Men are also more prone to develop hearing loss than women.
Seeking help from a hearing professional is the right thing to do if you feel like your hearing is becoming impaired. Hearing is so important to your everyday life and relationships that only a trusted professional should be consulted. The team of hearing care professionals at Hearing Solution Centers is here to help with our four step process for assessing and treating hearing loss.
Hearing Solution Centers Has a Plan
No hearing loss is the same, and at Hearing Solution Centers, we recognize that. Hearing loss, no matter the cause, type, or severity is going to be different and unique for each individual who has it. A comprehensive hearing assessment is essential to begin on the path to treatment, but that’s not the only important factor in improving your hearing loss.
Hearing Solution Centers’ Four Step Process to address each of our clients hearing loss is a dependable way to manage all aspects of hearing loss. We don’t just diagnose and treat, we make a plan with each patient that looks at their hearing from every angle. We discuss this plan and build it with you as we go through the process of tending to your hearing loss.
HSC Four Step Process
Step One: Your Goals
Any process that includes finding a solution should begin by looking at what you want to achieve from the solution. In terms of hearing loss, it is important to discuss your goals for your hearing. This includes looking at the goals you have for your hearing in certain areas of your life like hearing in social situations, hearing among family, hearing when outdoors, etc.
As we look at each category that is important to you, we take notes in order to “build” a solution for your hearing loss. The patient receives a copy of this as well so they can discuss it with friends and family.
Step Two: Lifestyle
Just like hearing loss, no lifestyle is exactly the same. Examining different types of lifestyles, and which one fits you best, allows us to better understand treatment options for your hearing loss. Active, casual, quiet, and very quiet lifestyles impact the type of hearing aid you need. Working with you to pinpoint your lifestyle in the beginning means a better solution to your hearing loss as a result.
Step Three: Understanding the Human Ear (And Your Ear)
Understanding hearing loss makes it easier to grasp your diagnosis and treatment options. Knowing the different types of hearing loss and where they are located within the ear will help you better understand your particular hearing loss. We review this information with you by showing you pictures and diagrams that are easy to comprehend and interpret.
Step Four: Audiogram
At this point in the process, you will have taken a comprehensive hearing test and we will review your results with you. We won’t just tell you the type of hearing loss you have, we’ll discuss it with you, explain how it may have occurred and show you through diagrams and technology exactly where it is in your ear(s). Understanding precisely what your diagnosis is makes you part of the solution.
At Hearing Solution Centers, we want our patients to ask questions and be involved in the process of finding a resolution. Your comfort and trust with us is imperative to finding the right treatment option for you. The hearing professionals at HSC are here to help you through your entire hearing journey.
